What a Charge Is

A charge represents a single debit against a company's
account balance. Charges are created automatically by the
platform as usage occurs: call minutes, SMS messages, phone
number rentals, transcription fees, API Calls and other billable
events each generate charge records.

Charge Rollups

Individual charges are aggregated into rollup records for
efficient reporting. Rollups summarize charges by type and
period (daily, monthly). Reports and invoices read from
rollups rather than scanning millions of individual charge
records.

Date Range Queries

All billing queries that filter charges by date use a
half-open interval: inclusive on the low end, exclusive on
the high end. This prevents double-counting when adjacent
periods share a boundary.
